Pica Pica Arepa Kitchen
Venezuelan Restaurant
Location: 401 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94103
Pica Pica is naturally 100% gluten free since many items are made with ingredients such as corn, meat, and other vegetables. From the Venezuelan cuisine, this casual restaurant primarily offers arepa and cachapa. Both are made out of corn, cachapa being more on the sweet side. But that’s not all, they also sell empanadas, ceviche, salads, soup, yuca fries, and yuca beignets. Check out this interactive allergen menu if you have more allergies or simply want to see this cool feature for yourself.

Kivata
Health Food Restaurant
Location: 2011 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94110
Mix healthy and delicious and you get Kitava. My favorites are the chicken nuggets, crispy brussels sprouts, and hummus, as shown above. You can get the signature bowls or construct your own bowl. Kind of like going off of the Vegan Bowl Guide at home. The gluten free restaurant is also 100% dairy-, peanut-, soy-, and refined sugar-free.
While the location it’s in is not as nice, the restaurant itself is comforting. If you want to order online they offer delivery. Beware if you sit in the restaurant during prime eating hours, there will be delivery guys going in and out, which is quite interesting actually.

In-N-Out Burger
Fast Food Restaurant Company
Location: 333 Jefferson St, San Francisco, CA 94133
If you‘re not an in-state (or neighboring state) visitor I highly recommend trying In-N-Out. If not for the burgers, then for saying you’ve been since they‘re exclusive to California and some other nearby states. If you didn’t know, they have a very minimal menu – but luckily enough also have a minimal price point.
Some people don’t know, but everything at In-N-Out is gluten free except for the buns, and the sauce may be cross-contaminated. Some of my go-to orders is a burger protein style (which is a regular burger with no bun, and lettuce as the wrap) and animal fries (which are fries with cheese, grilled onion, and sauce, as pictured above on the left). They also have delicious shakes offered in the flavors of vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or neapolitan shake (all three flavors).
GF: fries, protein style burger, shakes, essentially everything but the buns

Ferry Building: One Ferry Building #32, San Francisco, CA 94111
Oakland: 5427 Telegraph Ave d3, Oakland, CA 94609
It’s not often you find such a well-rounded 100% gluten free bakery. You can literally fill all your baked good cravings. I know I had been searching for ages to find a gluten free soft pretzel. Cinnamon rolls, croissants, chocolate croissants, brioche bread, bagels, pizza crusts, scones, brownies, donuts, muffins, and cookies just to name a few items they offer.
I mean you can make a lot of things gluten free at home, but a croissant, brioche, and pretzels are not easy so this is just amazing. You can also take some packaged items home! Or pro tip, grab the discounted day-old items.

Grande Crêperie
French Restaurant
Location: Ferry Building, San Francisco, CA 94105
Inside the Port of San Fransisco building these lovely french crepes can easily be missed, especially as a gluten free option. But with a little knowledge, you should be clear to eat every crepe gluten free from Nutella to salmon.
On the menu, there is a list of savory and sweet crepes. Under the savory crepe, they indicate they are made with gluten free buckwheat flour. But as you can see in the image above, the sweet crepe can also be requested to be made gluten free.
While the sweet crepes are typically made with wheat flour, since half their menu is with the buckwheat, they naturally have one buckwheat crepe pan and one wheat flour pan.
GF: every crepe ordered with buckwheat flour
Wholesome Bakery
Health-minded Bakery
Location: 299 Divisadero St, San Francisco, CA 94117
In addition to being 100% gluten free, this bakery is 100% vegan, refined sugar-free, and contains organic and sustainable ingredients. And still with all these preferences met, their menu is gleaming with scrumptious options. You can find hand pies, bagels, 7-layer bars, cookies, cupcakes, bread loaves, cake, tiramisu, cinnamon rolls, and more. Their dinner service offers pizza, lasagna, cheese board, beer, and more.

Cafes
Philz Coffee
American Coffeehouse Company
If you’re looking for espresso or a latte, this is not the place. Instead, Philz’s specialty is essentially their pour-over coffee. With this, they have many unique coffee blends from Jacob’s Wonderbar (chocolatey, with subtle hints of fruit) to Tesora (smooth, with caramel and vanilla notes). Their locations are exclusive to certain cities, so if you get the chance to try it in their originating city, you’ll have many opportunities since they are spread across the Bay Area.

Blue Bottle Coffee
Coffee Roaster
While Blue Bottle is available in various locations such as LA and Boston, their headquarters are placed in Oakland, California, which is right outside of San Francisco. Therefore, there are many more locations in San Francisco than in other areas, and you’re bound to find one in your area or an area you visit in the city.
Their coffee is great quality with a simple menu that includes whole milk substitutions. There are lattes, cappuccinos, hot chocolate, matcha, and teas. Note that they do have pastries, but those are not gluten free.
GF: drinks
Not Latte
Cafe
Location: 2142 Irving St, San Francisco, CA 94122
The place is so much more than an ordinary coffee shop. For one, it’s all iced drinks. But that’s not even the exciting part – it’s the fruit lattes. The main items on the menu are lattes (espresso + milk) with a fruit blend of choice.
Essentially you choose from avocado, mango, durian (aka jackfruit), pineapple, or banana. Then they put the fruit (blended) on the bottom, and top the drink off with milk (regular, soy, or oat) and espresso. Of course, if you don’t want the fruit you can omit and order a regular latte, espresso, or cappuccino. For the fun part of his cafe it may sound weird but give it a try if you’re in the Golden Gate Park area. Never would I thought a Durian Latte would exist let alone taste good.

Extra
Luke’s Local
Grocery Store
Cow Hollow: 2190 Union Street, San Francisco
Cole Valley: 960 Cole Street, San Francisco
Grocery stores can also be nice and convenient destinations to get food. You can both grab a bite to eat and something for later. Luke’s Local is a cute health food grocery store offering many products meeting dietary preferences and to-go options. There are packaged items like the frittata and gluten free lemon bar pictured above. The Cow Hollow location has a nice setting area outside where you can eat, or you can walk 20 minutes to reach Great Meadow Park at Fort Mason next to the water.
